Navarathri is a 9 day puja celebrated for the deities Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswathi. The 10th day is known as Vijayathasamy. On this day all auspicious deeds are carried out. Children are taken to school for the first time. Students register for dance, music or art classes. Everyone adorns colorful attire and go to the temple to receive the blessings before commencing a new hobby.

Lord Skantha from Mavai temple is taken on procession to the nearby Durga temple in Tellippalai. There, a Manampu celebration takes place resembling the killing of a demon with the burning of fire followed by fireworks. The deity is accompanied by musicians, priests and devotees and returns to the temple.
